GRAND VALLEY DRESSAGE SOCIETY 2008 YEAR-END AWARDS

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL AWARDS:

 All GVDS awards are based on the horse/rider combinations with the highest median scores unless otherwise stated.

 All members must be in good standing with GVDS in order to be eligible for year-end awards.

 Owner and rider must be current GVDS/ RMDS members at the time scores are accrued; otherwise the scores cannot count toward year-end awards. (Exception: Pony Club Awards). Newsletter-only subscribers are not eligible. A copy of USPC Card and breed papers must be on file before October 1, 2008

 There will be no changes to any year-end results after October 1. You may request a score check 2 weeks after the Western Slope Championship show.

 
ELIGIBLE SHOWS:
Scores earned at the following shows will be used in calculating GVDS awards:

GVDS Schooling Show October 6-7, 2007

GVDS Schooling Show March 15-16, 2008

GVDS Spring Show #I May 9, 2008

GVDS Spring Show #II May 10-11, 2008

Ned Marshall Memorial Show May 31-June 1, 2008

GVDS Fall Show September 6, 2008

Western Slope Championship and Open Show September 7, 2008

 

HORSE OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Minimum Requirements:

Introductory through Fourth Levels: 3 shows, 6 rides at each level  (FEI Levels: 3 shows, 3 rides at each level)

2 of the scores must be at least 55% at the highest test of the level AND the median must be at least 55%.

Awarded to the horse and rider with the highest median score (at each level.) 

Separate awards for Open, Adult Amateur, and Junior/Young Rider Divisions.

Introductory Level, Training Level, First Level, Second Level, Third Level, Fourth Level, FEI

 

HORSE OF THE YEAR – PONY DIVISION AWARDS

Minimum Requirements: 2 shows, 4 rides

Introductory Level, Training Level, First Level and Above  (ONLY Pony Classes count)

1 of the scores must be at least 55% at the highest test of the level and the median must be at least 55%.

Awarded to the horse/rider combination with the highest median (at each level).

Separate awards to Open/Adult Amateur and Junior/Young Rider divisions.  Rider must be a current GVDS/ RMDS member prior to first score accrued for scores to count.

 A Junior or AA rider must declare whether they are working toward a pony championship or age award within the level.

 

FREESTYLE HORSE OF THE YEAR AWARD

Minimum Requirements: 3 shows, 3 rides per level shown with the median greater than 60%

Awarded to the horse and rider combination with highest median score

 

SPECIAL RECOGNITION CERTIFICATES

Minimum Requirements: 3 shows, 6 rides; FEI: 3 shows, 3 rides

 Horse and Rider -

Older Is Better - awarded to the horse/rider with the highest median at any given level, where the rider is 55 years of age or older. Awarded to the highest median for Introductory and above.

Young Is Fun - awarded to the horse/ride with the highest median score at any given level, where the rider is 21 years of age or younger. Awarded to the highest median for Introductory and above.

Biggest Difference - Awarded to the horse/rider with the largest point spread between their highest and lowest scores (at that level).

Most Consistent - Awarded to the horse/rider with the smallest point spread between their highest and lowest scores (at that level).

Single High Score – Awarded to the horse/rider combination with the single highest percentage score, excluding freestyles.

Young Is Fun - awarded to the horse/ride with the highest median score at any given level, where the rider is 21 years of age or younger. Awarded to the highest median for Introductory and above. e age of 21.

Older Is Better - (GVDS Vintage Rider) must declare your birthday! Riders begin competing in the calendar year in which they reach the age of 55.

 Median Score - All eligible scores will be recorded. The median is the middle score when all scores are ranked from highest to lowest. For an even number of scores, the two middle scores are added together and divided by two. The median must be 55% or higher to qualify for an award. This method of computation will be used for all awards. 

 

BREED AWARDS

The Colorado West Arabian Horse Club is sponsoring a GVDS Year-End Award, to be awarded to the Arab or Half-Arab with the highest median from at least six rides/three eligible shows. The horse must have Arab or Half-Arab registration papers and a copy must be on file with Cindy Denison to be eligible, and the rider/owner must be a GVDS/ RMDS member. 

 Quarter Horse Award sponsored by Cindy Denison (same requirements as Horse of the Year Award)

 Morgan Horse Award sponsored by River Song Morgans, Susan and Victor Mihal (same requirements as Horse of the Year Award)

 American Saddlebred Award sponsored by Lisa Binse (same requirements as Horse of the Year Award)

 

PONY CLUB AWARDS 

Open to members of Cliff Palace, Grand Valley, Paddock's End, Roaring Fork Hounds, Shining Mountains, Vail Valley, and Yampa Valley Pony Clubs.
Minimum Requirements:

2 shows, 4 rides at the same level

US Pony Clubbers do not have to be GVDS/ RMDS members for these two awards, but must submit a copy of their USPC Card to Cindy Denison prior to October1, 2008 for the scores to count. GVDS will offer two awards: The highest median score for D Level and C Level. Scores can be from any eligible show. The following tests will count for each USPC Level: D-1 and D-2 Introductory Tests A & B, D-3 Training Level Tests 3 & 4, All C Level First Level Tests 1 & 2.

 

OTHER AWARDS

The Horse In Sport Sportsmanship Award awarded to the competitor who best represents the sport of dressage. Nominations may be submitted to The Horse In Sport.

 

PLEASE NOTE: A horse/rider combination is only eligible to win one year-end championship at any given level.
